Sahaba Names
The most widespread definition of Sahabi
(plural sahaba) is someone who saw the Prophet (sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam) heard or were in his presence even briefly
and believed in him as well as died as Muslim, blind people
are considered companions even if they could not see
Mohamed.
Those that saw him but held off believing in him until after
his passing are not considered Sahaba but Tabi`in.
A Muslim, who lived during the time of the Prophet -
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam- and didn't meet him, is called
"mukhadram".
There were more than one hundred thousand companions. The
last sermon Muhammad (pbuh) delivered after making
his last Hajj, there were about 124,000 witnesses to this
sermon.
